May News – Dermaplaning and Microneedling

We have had some lovely sunshine this month and with that everyone is thinking about getting their skin summer ready.

Fake tanning is still really popular and spray tans are definitely the way to go. The cost to you the therapist is very low and it is such a quick treatment to do it is definitely worth considering adding this to your treatment menu.

The latest “buzz” words in the Beauty business over the last few months have been Dermaplaning and microneedling.

Dermaplaning is a skin care treatment that removes dead skin cells and vellus hair, aka peach fuzz, using a small sterile blade.

The Allen and Walden method of dermaplaning is designed to be used by experienced skin therapists with nationally recognised qualifications in skin care to Level 3 or equivalent. This technique can be used in conjunction with your existing facial treatments and products to create a bespoke facial for your client.

Dermaplaning goes beyond a basic shave.

The procedure involves the use of a 10-inch scalpel, which curves into a sharp point. The blade is used on clean, dry skin on the forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and neck. Your clients can expect to see an instant improvement in skin texture and tone, while the long-term effects are increased cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots, reduction of acne scarring, and the removal of fine facial hair

Hairless skin is the cleanest. Removing the peach fuzz is beneficial since the fine hairs trap debris and oils and give skin a dull look. After dermaplaning, skin care products and treatments perform much more efficiently since they can penetrate the skin more easily. Makeup application is also far smoother so great before a special event to enhance makeup application

Benefits of Dermaplaning

  • Super soft and smooth skin.
  • Flawless makeup application post-treatment.
  • Increased penetration of products post-treatment.
  • Removal of vellus hair (peach fuzz).
  • Improves the appearance of fine lines and large pores.
  • No downtime post-treatment.
  • Leaves skin with a healthy glowing appearance.
  • Instant results.

What is microneedling?

Micro-needling, also known as skin needling, is a procedure using a device covered with tiny, shallow needles to essentially insert small holes in the skin surface.

Micro-needling is an effective skin treatment to improve acne or acne scarring, as well as for fine lines, discolouration and general skin rejuvenation. We can customize microneedling to the desires of each client. All areas of the body can be treated depending on the client’s medical history and current medical situation.

How is the treatment performed?

Skin needling procedures are performed by professionally trained practitioners with the use of the sterile Derma roller (DM) microneedling device in a clinic or salon. The whole procedure is normally completed within 30-45 minutes depending on the required treatment and anatomical site. Actual needling on facial skin is no more than 10 minutes in duration. The practitioner gently rolls or presses the DM microneedling device over the client’s skin to puncture the outermost layers of the skin and create minuscule sub-cutaneous trauma.

This process by which the skin is punctured by needles causes the induction of new collagen formation. These microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year.

What conditions can be treated using Microneedling?

  • Premature skin ageing
  • Scaring and acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Reduce the appearance of cellulite
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots
  • Acne
  • Large pores
  • Hair loss
